THE project launching ceremony for Central Backbone Expressway in Myanmar (Yangon-Mandalay Express and Yangon-Ngayokekaung Expressway between the Department of Highway of the Ministry of Construction and KOICA Myanmar Office was held yesterday morning via videoconferencing.

Deputy Minister Dr Kyaw Linn said Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay Expressway and Yangon-Pathein-Ngayokekaung Expressway would be the backbone of Myanmar in the future and the ceremony would be a great chance for the potential the investors in Myanmar.

The project conforms to the plans and procedures of MSDP and listed in the project Bank. As the Myanmar Investment Law, new rules and regulations are being adopted in the country, and there would be need for infrastructure and private investment for some limitation of the government budget.

The deputy minister also discussed the feasibility study, which will be presented by the officials of Yooshin and Kyongdong Consultants and question and answer session for the investors.

The Korean Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Lee Sang-hwa made a greeting speech, while Chief Representative Ms Lee Youn Soo of KOICA Myanmar Office briefed the Central Backbone Expressway in Myanmar Project and the video clip including the road network and work plans of Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay Expressway and Yangon-Pathein-Ngayokekaung Expressway was played.

The attendees to the meeting then coordinated the discussion, and the Deputy Minister concluded the meeting.

The main purpose of the project launch is for the Ministry of Construction and KOICA of the Republic of Korea to work together for the further development of Myanmar’s road and transport sectors.

The feasibility study on studies on upgrading Yangon- Mandalay Expressway and building Yangon-Ngayokekaung Expressway was conducted in 2018.

These two roads play a key role in the road network of Myanmar while Yangon-Mandalay Expressway is on the section of South-East Economic Corridor and Yangon-Pathein-Ngayokekaung section is on East- West Economic Corridor.

Such major road projects will meet the basic infrastructure needs in Myanmar as well as provide the proportionate development of all states and regions.
