The rehabilitation and renovation of Surgical Ward 3 of Mandalay General Hospital, which was damaged in the earthquake, has been completed. The handover ceremony was held yesterday at Ward 3 of the hospital.
Attending the ceremony were Mr Zhang Wei, Deputy Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China, based in Mandalay; Dr Myo Thant Khaing, Deputy Head of the Mandalay Region Public Health Department (Treatment); Dr San Lwin Oo, Medical Superintendent; other responsible officials; and invitees.
The Deputy Consul-General and officials first toured Ward 3 to inspect the completed renovation and observe ongoing patient treatments.
The second part of the programme was held at the Mantaung Yeik Hall of the nine-storey building, where the Deputy Consul-General delivered an opening address, followed by remarks from the Deputy Head of the Regional Public Health Department (Treatment). The Deputy Consul-General then handed over all relevant documents concerning the completed renovation to the Medical Superintendent.
Following the handover, the Medical Superintendent and officials presented certificates of honour and recognition to the Deputy Consul-General and representatives from Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline Co Ltd, Myanmar Conch Cement Co Ltd and the Myanmar-China Cooperation Association, in appreciation of their contributions to the project.
The rehabilitation of Ward 3 at Mandalay General Hospital, damaged by the earthquake, was jointly funded and supported by the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Mandalay, Myanmar-China Oil and Gas Pipeline Co Ltd and Myanmar Conch Cement Co Ltd, with the Myanmar-China Cooperation Association providing collaborative assistance. Renovation work commenced on 17 July and was completed on 16 October, with the total cost amounting to approximately K160 million.
