A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr Wah Wah Maung attended the second meeting of the Myanmar-Belarus Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, as well as the International Industrial Exhibition “INNOPROM. Belarus,” held in Minsk, the Republic of Belarus, from 29 September to 3 October.
The second meeting of the Myanmar–Belarus Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation was held on 2 October at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, co-chaired by Dr Wah Wah Maung, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, and Mr Maxim Ryzhenkov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
The meeting discussed in detail the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries during the March meeting of their heads of state, as well as the finalization of the 2026-2028 roadmap being drafted based on the signed Letter of Intent for Development Cooperation.
To further accelerate bilateral trade and economic cooperation, the parties exchanged views on the potential and opportunities for collaboration in sectors covered by the agreements and roadmaps, including industry, agriculture and food, health and medicine, banking and finance, education and tourism, and business.
Following the discussion, the co-chairs approved and exchanged the minutes of the second joint committee meeting and issued a press release on the proceedings.
The Union minister and Dr Tin Htut, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, who accompanied the delegation, attended the trade fair, plenary session, and the reception for special guests on 29 September.
The plenary session was attended by the prime ministers of Belarus, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, who delivered speeches, as well as by heads of government, heads of delegations, top business executives, and representatives of business organizations from the Eurasian Economic Union member states.
In addition, the Myanmar delegation attended the International Industrial Exhibition “INNOPROM. Belarus”, explored and inquired about Belarus’ industrial innovations, high-tech products, modern technologies, and machinery on display, and discussed potential opportunities for cooperation with Myanmar.
During his visit to Minsk on 30 September, the Union minister met with Mr Aleksandr Khodzhayev, Minister of Health of the Republic of Belarus, to discuss cooperation in the health care and pharmaceutical sectors, and with Mr Denis Bakei, Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus, to discuss cooperation in the industrial and agricultural sectors.
In addition, the Union minister visited the Milk and Dairy Products Factory in Minsk to observe the production, quality control, and safety management of dairy products, and the Minsk Vehicle Manufacturing Factory to observe the production and quality testing of vehicles, ambulances, mobile medical vehicles, and fire engines, with officials from each factory providing a tour and discussing bilateral cooperation and investment opportunities.
The Myanmar–Belarus Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation also held discussions and carried out studies within its respective working groups. The Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation of Myanmar and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus co-chaired the first meeting of the Myanmar-Belarus Joint Working Group on Agriculture and Food. The meeting focused on opportunities for collaboration in the agricultural sector, partnerships between research institutions, and the exchange of technology and expertise.
A representative from Myanmar’s Ministry of Health visited the Advin CJSC factory and the Belmedpreparaty pharmaceutical plant to learn about new technologies in medical imaging and medicine production. At the same time, a representative from the Central Bank of Myanmar met with officials from the National Bank of Belarus to discuss ways to improve payment and settlement systems between the two countries.
In addition, representatives from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry met with their counterparts from the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to explore opportunities for greater business cooperation between the two countries.
