A charter flight by Malaysia Airlines bringing back 280 Myanmar nationals who were detained in Malaysia for various reasons landed at Yangon International Airport yesterday morning, and relevant officials received them.

The Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur scrutinized them and issued the Certificate of Identity (CI). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperated with relevant ministries in Malaysia, the Myanmar Embassy, relevant ministries in Myanmar and regional governments to bring back the detainees to home.

As they arrived in the Airport, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population; the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Yangon Region government arranged proper medical check-ups, and 7-day government facility quarantine plus 7-day home quarantine for them.

To bring back Myanmar detainees and Myanmar migrant workers stranded in Malaysia by relief and charter flights in accordance with the instructions from National-Level Central Committee on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cooperated with the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, and a total of 4,035 Myanmar nationals including 788 detainees have been brought back to Myanmar via a total of 24 flights to date.

Currently, Myanmar authorities have negotiated with Malaysia to bring back more than 700 Myanmar detainees to home on 5 November under the arrangement by the Malaysian government.
