Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than, accompanied by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, attended the ceremony for the test run of Air Compressors installed at the air purification plant of the No 2 Steel Mill (Pangpet) in Taunggyi Township of Shan State on 26 July.

The Union minister pressed the button of No 1 Air Compressor to run properly, inspected the operation system of the air compressor, and No 2 Air Compressor.

After the event, the Union minister said the permission was achieved from the State Administration Council to implement the No 2 Steel Mill (Pangpet) with three recommendations of TPE, and now recommendation 1 operating air purification plant is initiated. The plant produces oxygen between 20,000 and 40,000 Nm³ (normal cubic metre) and nitrogen between 400 and 1,200 Nm³ per hour, while it just needs 33,000 Nm³ oxygen and 218 Nm³ nitrogen per hour to run the Romelt plant.

He continued that the materials of the air purification plant were examined and installed by one expert from TPE Co Ltd and nine experts from AGS Co Ltd starting from 12 May 2025, and the main part of the plant Air Compressors were successfully operated.

Mr Senin of TPE Co Ltd, Mr Konev of AGS Co Ltd and Mr Vladislav of Rostec briefed all on successful cooperation and further work plans.

The Union minister presented gifts and handed over a K5 million cash prize for the staff of the No 2 Steel Mill (Pangpet) to the mill manager.

The No 2 Steel Mill (Pangpet) project resumed on 4 October 2021, and 19 workshops in the mill are now operating. The project will be finalized in November 2026.
