MYANMAR is hosting the 17th meeting of ASEAN Fisheries Consultative Forum (AFCF) and the 33rd ASEAN Fisheries Working Group (AFWG) Meeting from 22 to 25 July.
The 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Fisheries Consultative Forum was held yesterday morning at the Summit Parkview Hotel’s Ballroom in Yangon.
Mr Nazri Bin Ishak from the Department of Fisheries, Malaysia, and U Myint Zin Htoo, Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, Myanmar, delivered opening remarks at the ceremony.
The forum was then cochaired by U Myint Zin Htoo, Director-General of the Department of Fisheries, and Ms Maria Abegail Albaladejo from the Department of Fisheries, the Philippines.
The ASEAN Fisheries Consultative Forum was convened to discuss and coordinate fisheries activities among ASEAN countries to support the ASEAN Fisheries Cooperation Organization.
The forum will address issues such as fishing capacity control and zoning, sustainable small-scale fisheries, promotion of fish stock recovery, the impact of climate change on fisheries and aquaculture, combating illegal fishing, and implementing a traceability system for fishery products.
The outcomes of the forum discussions will be presented at the ASEAN Regional Fisheries Framework (ARFF) meeting, which will take place on 23 to 25 July.
The meeting is being attended by representatives from ASEAN Member States, including Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia, as well as the ASEAN Secretariat, representatives from SEAFDEC and fisheries partner organizations, and representatives from Singapore who will join online.
