The Myanmar government, in collaboration with international organizations and neighbouring countries, is rigorously investigating and eradicating telecom fraud and related criminal activities. In cases involving foreign nationals, the government systematically repatriates them to their respective countries.
Yesterday, 26 Ugandan nationals were deported to their home country via the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II, following legal procedures and considering humanitarian and bilateral relations. To ensure a smooth and systematic deportation process, U Myint Phone, Deputy Director of the Immigration and Population Department of Kayin State, and other officials instructed relevant departments to maintain accurate records and data.
The handover ceremony was attended by Deputy Director U Myint Phone, officials from the Ugandan Embassy to Malaysia, including Ambassador Ms Betty O Bigombe, and representatives from the Thai Immigration Department of Tak Province. Myanmar officials formally handed over the deportation documents to the representatives of the respective countries.
Between 30 January and 19 May 2025, Myanmar authorities detained a total of 9,086 foreign nationals who had illegally entered the country. Of these, 8,438 individuals were deported to their respective countries through Thailand, following legal procedures. The remaining 648 foreign nationals are ready for repatriation and are being well looked after.
The Myanmar government remains committed to thoroughly investigating online scams and online gambling activities in collaboration with neighbouring countries and international organizations. Further actions will continue to be taken against those involved.
