A demonstration and trial of using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) was held yesterday at the Maykha Hall of the Kachin State Government Office in Myitkyina, Kachin State, allowing eligible voters to experience the system firsthand.

U Khin Zaw, member of the Union Election Commission, explained during the event that this machine is the first of its kind to be used in Myanmar’s electoral history. It was designed and produced domestically by Myanmar citizens. He noted that using this machine would eliminate the possibility of invalid votes and reduce delays in vote counting. It also aims to prevent numerical errors and ensure that accurate results are announced within a short time, thereby enabling more transparent and credible elections without controversies or irregularities.

Following the explanation, the Deputy Director-General of the Union Election Commission Office gave a detailed clarification on use of the MEVM system. Chief Minister of Kachin State U Khet Htein Nan, state ministers, departmental officials and representatives from political parties participated in a practical voting session using the machine.
