The sixth liver transplant surgery continued on the third day at the specialized treatment centre of the Defence Services General Hospital (1000-bed) in Mingaladon Township, Yangon Region, yesterday.

The patient undergoing surgery was U Zaw Lin Tun, with his wife, Daw Khin Swe Win, serving as the liver donor. The liver extraction from the donor commenced at 9 am, and the transplanted liver was successfully implanted into the recipient patient around 3:30 pm. The total surgery duration was approximately nine hours.

Both the donor and the recipient are in good health post-surgery, receiving ongoing care from specialist doctors and nurses in the special care unit.

The health conditions of the two liver donors and two liver recipients who underwent surgery in the preceding two days are also showing improvement. — MNA/TKO
