The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement yesterday organized a virtual meeting on effective implementation of the ministry’s works in Rakhine State abiding by COVID-19 rules.

Union Minister Dr Win Myat Aye, Deputy Minister U Soe Aung, Directors-General and relevant departments’ directors for Rakhine State attended the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, the Union Minister said that it is important to keep on undertaking the ministry’s works as part of COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) and as part of preparation for COVID-19 control measures in Rakhine State that began since March 2020.

The ministry was conducting COVID-19 awareness programmes and providing assistance including water and accommodations for vulnerable people at IDP camps, he added.

He said the National Volunteers Steering Committee Secretary Office to keep on investigating the ground condition requirements in making arrangements for volunteers. The ministry needs greater capacity to implement COVID-19 containment measures as confirmed cases of coronavirus in Rakhine State are rising at present, he added calling for a round of discussions on fulfilling the ministry’s duties in accordance with the rules issued during COVID-19.

The attendees discussed matters relating to temporary visits of experienced officials and staff to Rakhine State for assistance, accommodations and foods for staff, strictly abiding by COVID-19 guidelines in serving duties, and distributing protective materials in a sufficient manner.

They detailed about systematic cooperation between sent volunteers and local volunteers at quarantine centres, ways to protect volunteers from infections, and getting sufficient amounts of quality personal protective equipment (PPEs).

The meeting also discussed arrangements for avoiding delay in providing assistance under COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan because of COVID-19 and undertaking the works in cooperation with Rakhine State government, General Administration Department, relevant departments and Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Rakhine State.
