A TOTAL of 1,436 tonnes for the state oil reserve are to be stored in the warehouses of Mandalay, according to the regional Department of Consumer Affairs.

“The townships have been selected for the storage of oil after checking the security of warehouses in the region. The oil reserve scheme is for emergency case during the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, the state is buying 12,000 tonnes of oil in cooperation with the relevant departments, oil millers and traders. Mandalay is allotted 1,436 tonnes of oil reserves,” said the head of regional Department of Consumer Affairs.

The stadium in Natogyi Township has received about 29 tonnes (1,798 oil containers) out of 42 tonnes apportioned to the town so far. The supervision units for the storage of emergency oil reserve are formed in the respective townships and districts of Mandalay regions.

In order to ensure the self-sufficiency during the COVID- 19 pandemic, the government planned to spend K38 billion to purchase foodstuff (50,000 tonnes of rice and 12,000 tonnes of palm oil), said Dr Than Myint, Union Minister for Commerce. The state’s emergency rice and oil reserve is to keep the price stable in the domestic market, lessen the worries of the consumers, offer the emergency foodstuff to the people at a much fairer price, ensure food security to the people when a natural disaster occurs, support ASEAN Emergency Rice Reserve and aid the victims in the time of adversity.

Myanmar has purchased an adequate amount of rice for the national reserve and the purchase has temporarily halted, according to the Department of Consumer Affairs, under the Ministry of Commerce.
