THE ceremony to mount the new golden umbrella atop the ancient Sutaungpyae Pagoda built in the Phayagon Monastery of Sutaungpyae Phayasu Village, Sutaungpyae Village-tract, Pantanaw Township, Maubin District in Ayeyawady Region, was held at the pagoda yesterday, and State Administration Council member Mahn Nyein Maung was present on the occasion.

Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, the commander of South-West Command, regional ministers, donors and residents participated in the ceremony.

Donors paid the Sutaungpyae Pagoda a circulatory tour, after a three-time recitation of Namo Tassa and the Metta Sutta by members of the Sangha at the opening ceremony.

Then, SAC Member Mahn Nyein Maung, officials and donors offered the golden umbrella, the pennant-shaped vane and the diamond orb atop the pagoda by a decorated float.

Afterwards, the sermons were recited by members of the Sangha and they performed the rituals of golden and silver showers to mark the successful completion of the ceremony.

Later, the ceremony was concluded by sharing merits after the SAC member and officials offered donations to Sayadaws.
