Tatmadaw columns conducting area security operations in Namhsan Township, Shan State (South), carried out searches following reports of online scam activities in the area. At about 2:30 pm yesterday, security forces raided a brick building with a corrugated iron roof measuring about 80 by 60 feet, located about 250 metres south of Narineywathit Village in Namhsan Township, which was allegedly being used for online scam operations.
During the operation, authorities arrested 49 suspects, comprising 38 Chinese nationals who had allegedly entered the country illegally (36 men and two women) and 11 Myanmar nationals (seven men and four women), who were allegedly involved in online scam activities, together with One P-365 pistol with two magazines and five rounds of 9 mm ammunition, one Uzi-type pistol with one magazine and nine rounds of .38-calibre ammunition, two AK-47 assault rifles with two magazines and 50 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 67 mobile phones, four All in One computers, one CPU and six Starlink discs.
Offenders will face action under the existing law after proper examination, and the seized materials will be managed in accordance with the procedures.
