Union Minister for Information U Htein Linn met personnel from departments under the Ministry of Information, including the Information and Public Relations Department, the Department of Printing and Publishing, the Department of Media Development and Promotion, and the News and Periodical Enterprise, at the Printing and Publishing Enterprise Headquarters on Theinbyu Road, Botahtaung Township, Yangon, yesterday.

The meeting was attended by the Yangon Region minister for Information, Relief and Religious Affairs, as well as departmental officials and staff members.

The Union minister spoke on the occasion that the Ministry must serve as the “eyes and ears” of the State, keeping the public informed about government activities. He emphasized that news reporting should be based on solid evidence and that, as a State-owned media organization, it should uphold the interests and expectations of the State while working collectively to achieve its objectives.

Earlier in the morning, the Union minister met Myanmar Press Council Chair Dr Tin Tun Oo and council members at the meeting hall of the Printing and Publishing Enterprise.

At the meeting, Union Minister U Htein Linn noted that in the digital age, information must be disseminated in a timely manner and stressed the importance of joint efforts to combat fake news and misinformation. He added that the Myanmar Press Council should provide recommendations in connexion with the forthcoming media law and should also plan to organize media workshops and meetings.

Subsequently, the chairman and members of the Myanmar Press Council discussed the council’s ongoing activities and issues related to media development, after which the Union minister delivered concluding remarks.
