Myanmar is placing strong emphasis on eradicating online fraud and online gambling, which pose serious threats to people’s livelihoods and safety around the world. In this effort, security personnel and administrative bodies have been conducting joint operations in Shwe Kokko and KK Park areas, where online fraud and online gambling operations have been most heavily concentrated. Working together with local authorities, these teams have continued operations to prevent illegal activities and to ensure that no foreign nationals are residing or operating unlawfully. They have also been demolishing illegal buildings. According to reports, systematic demolition of illegal buildings inside the Myawady-Maethawtalay (KK Park) area has been carried out up to the present day.
In addition, foreign nationals involved in online gambling and online fraud within the Shwe Kokko area have been further identified and detained.
Ten buildings out of 635 buildings used in online fraud and online gambling were demolished in the Myawady-Maethawtalay (KK Park) area yesterday. Up to now, the authorities have dismantled 206 illegal buildings, and they continue the demolition operation at the remaining illegal buildings.
Likewise, the operation is being conducted in the Shwe Kokko area, starting from 18 November. On the fifth day yesterday, the authorities carried out a search and inspection at a 12-storey Shinyonli Plaza, 14 housing buildings for workers and one two-storey building in the Shwe Kokko area. During the inspection, those involved in online fraud and online gambling activities were not found there. They took their computers, related accessories and mobile phones along with them. In inspecting 23 four-storey Shikyinwam buildings, 240 computers and monitors without related accessories were found. So, the operation to expose and clear the materials continues.
Yesterday, the authorities arrested and detained 100 Chinese citizens, 14 Vietnamese citizens, six Malaysians, 15 Ethiopians, two Namibians, 13 Indonesians, 11 Ugandans, 11 Indians, one Zimbabwean, seven Filipinos, six Pakistanis, three Rawamdans, 24 Kenyans, four Nigerians, one Nepali, one Korean, one Egyptian, one Madagascar citizen and two Chinese Taipei, totalling 223 who were hidden themselves after offending online fraud and online gambling in Shwe Kokko area via some neighbouring countries including Thailand. According to the concerted efforts to conduct the operation in the Shwe Kokko area, a total of 1,590 foreign nationals who entered Myanmar illegally were arrested from 18 November to date. Moreover, authorities seized 2,893 computers, 21,750 mobile phones, 101 Starlink satellite receivers, 21 Routers and a large number of industrial materials used in the online fraud and gambling activities. So, the operation is being conducted.
The arrested foreign nationals are being detained at the building in Lonhtin compound of Shwe Kokko Myaing Village, Pulwepu Village-tract in Myawady Township. Yesterday, the Illegal Foreigner Investigation Team verified 253 foreign nationals. The relevant departmental combined teams are carrying out the necessary processes, including collecting personal data and recording required documentation to enable their prompt repatriation to their respective countries as quickly as possible.
From 30 January to 22 November 2025, a total of 12,468 foreign nationals who had entered Myanmar illegally were detained. Of these, 11,893 individuals were screened, and 9,978 were systematically deported to their respective countries through Thailand in accordance with legal procedures. The remaining 2,490 foreign nationals are now ready to be transferred to their respective countries, and they are being properly held and cared for during this process.
The government considers the eradication of online fraud and online gambling crimes as a national responsibility and, to ensure that such activities can no longer operate within Myanmar, will continue its efforts in coordination not only with domestic forces but also with the governments of neighbouring countries.
