Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism, and Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee Jeng Phang Naw Taung attended the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports and related meetings held at Melia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam on 16 and 17 October. He was accompanied by Director-General for Sports and Physical Education Department U Nyan Zaw Oo.

During the meeting, the Union Minister discussed Myanmar’s participation in promoting ASEAN sports standards and development, as well as the country’s consistent organization of annual sports competitions to mark ASEAN Day. Representatives from ASEAN member countries also attended the meeting.

The Union Minister also met sports ministers and senior officials from Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos to discuss coordinated inclusion of traditional sports from respective countries in upcoming regional and Asian sporting events. They also exchanged views on improving the invitation system for regional competitions — proposing that invitations be issued at least three months in advance instead of the current two-week period.

Meanwhile, Director-General U Nyan Zaw Oo also attended the 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on sports and related meetings held from 12 to 14 October at the same venue, joining representatives from ASEAN member countries, China, and Japan.

The Union Minister and delegation returned to Yangon by air on 18 October.
