The opening ceremony of the scientific and practical workshop on reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, jointly organized by the Ministry of Health of Myanmar and the Ministry of Health of Russia, was held on Monday at the Lotte Hotel in Yangon.

Rector Dr Kyaw Shwe of the University of Medicine 1 made a greeting speech.

Dr Khamatkhanove Elizaveta, head of the Russian Department to Educational Simulation Technologies in Medicine, National Medical Research Centre for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after V I Kulakov, highlighted the bilateral cooperation in maternal and child healthcare medical services between the two countries, invitation to Myanmar specialists for training courses, and played the video clip featuring healthcare services of V I Kulakov Centre.

The workshop will be held for five days in Yangon, and another five days via videoconferencing in Russia in October. The event will be joined by the experts of the V I Kulakov centre and the specialists of the Ministry of Health.

The opening ceremony was attended by rectors, professors, department heads of the University of Medicine 1 and 2, representatives of the Russian Embassy, the Ministry of Health and eight Russian experts and 31 Myanmar specialists.
