Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who is also Chair of the Myanmar Olympic Committee, departed Yangon for Kuwait on the evening of 9 May to attend the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia held in Kuwait on 11 and 12 May.

At the opening of the 45th OCA General Assembly on 11 May, OCA Vice-President Mr Timothy Fok delivered the keynote speech, followed by remarks from Kuwait Olympic Committee Chairman Sheikh Fahad Al Sabah and International Olympic Committee President Mr Thomas Bach.

On 12 May, and the Myanmar Olympic Committee delegation participated in the second day assembly to approve the minutes of the 44th OCA General Assembly. Vice-presidents from five zones: East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia confirmed their annual activity reports. Mr Witold Banka, Chair of the World Anti-Doping Agency, presented a report.

Representatives from the organizing committees of the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games, Bahrain 2025 Asian Youth Games, Aichi Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, and Riyadh 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games OC gave presentations. Reports and discussions were also provided by officials from the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Solidarity and National Olympic Committees, and various national Olympic committees. The dates and venue for the next General Assembly were also set, along with general discussions.

Following the assembly, the Union Minister met officials from various Asian sports organizations to discuss the Myanmar Olympic Committee’s efforts to improve national sports standards, Myanmar’s participation in international competitions and the organization of training courses for referees and coaches. They also discussed Myanmar’s preparation for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, scheduled from 9 to 20 December, including arrangements for athlete participation, training facilities, accommodation and meals with representatives from the SEAGF Council.

The Union minister and his delegation returned to Yangon from Kuwait on the evening of 14 May.
