The Myanmar delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Planning and Finance and Ministry of Construction, led by State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo, attended the ninth meeting of the Joint Committee for the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement, and preliminary meeting of Senior Officials of the National Transport Facilitation Committee in Laos on 12 and 13 December.
The delegation left Yangon on 11 December morning to attend these meetings.
On 12 December, a Myanmar delegation led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications attended the preliminary meeting of Senior Officials of the National Transport Facilitation Committee and discussed the implementation work for the greater Mekong subregion cross-border transport agreement in which Myanmar ratified, draft agreement to expand route and entry and exit sites of border second time under GMS CBTA Protocol 1, operations conducted in 2024 under GMS transport protocol and missions for 2025.
On 13 December, the Deputy Prime Minister and party attended the ninth meeting of the Joint Committee for the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Transport Facilitation Agreement and discussed the NTFC SOM, a joint statement of the ninth meeting, and MoU on the second-time expansion of route and entry and exit sites of borders for the second time under GMS CBTA Protocol 1.
Myanmar signed the GMS CBTA in 2003, and all the member countries approved the annexes, protocols and commitment in 2015. The agreement is essential to solve the physical challenges in trade among member countries, reduce costs, develop trade, tourism and investment and promote the living standards of people. Myanmar will host the meetings of the Greater Mekong Subregion Cross-Border Transport Agreement in 2025.
The Myanmar delegation arrived back in Myanmar on 13 December evening.
