The 33rd Annual General Meeting of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) was held yesterday at the National Theatre in Yangon.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Planning and Finance U Win Shein, Union Ministers U Aung Kyaw Hoe, Dr Kan Zaw, and U Tun Ohn, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar Daw Than Than Swe, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, officials from foreign embassies, and representatives from partner organizations.
UMFCCI President U Aye Win first delivered a welcome address to the meeting.
Following this, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister U Win Shein highlighted that the private sector serves as a key driving force in economic development. He emphasized that the government prioritizes the interests of private businesses and urged entrepreneurs to ensure the timely and efficient inflow of foreign currency earnings from exports into the country.
He also stated that the economic growth rate for the 2024-2025 financial year is targeted at 3.8 per cent. Despite challenges in certain sectors due to regional and territorial conditions, the GDP growth rate for the first six months (from April to September) has reached 2.4 per cent. He acknowledged that UMFCCI plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration between the government and the private sector, helping to create a better economic environment through its contributions to policy-related issues.
Subsequently, the federation’s General Secretary Daw Khine Khine Nwe presented the annual report, financial statement, and the external audit report from JF Group (Certified Public Accountants & Auditors). After addressing questions and suggestions, the annual report and financial statement were approved, and an external auditor was appointed for the 2023-2024 financial year.
Following this, the president of the federation delivered a closing speech, after which group photos were taken. Attendees then toured the exhibition booths of partner organizations displayed inside the National Theatre.
