The Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khine attended the First Conference on Tourism for Rural Development jointly hosted by UN Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam on 10-11 December in Hoi An.
The First Conference on Tourism for Rural Development focused on the power of tourism in rural development and cooperation with national level, regional governmental organizations and international organizations.
On 10 December, the Union Minister and party attended the conference, and Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Mr Pham Minh Chinh, Minister for Culture, Sports and Tourism Mr Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Minister Mr Ho An Phong, Secretary of Quang Nam Province Mr Luong Nguyen Minh Triet and Executive Director of UN World Tourism Organization Ms Zoritsa Urosevic made an opening speech respectively.
The conference discussed different topics regarding policy frameworks for rural tourism development, growing agriculture and tourism synergies to drive sustainability, market access and integration, innovative digital tools and funding mechanisms to support rural destinations, entrepreneurs and community-led initiatives.
The Myanmar delegation attended the dinner event hosted by the Vietnamese Minister for Culture, Sports and Culture in the evening.
On 11 December, the Myanmar delegation visited the Tra Que village, the best tourist village in 2024, Thanh Ha village, Hoi An ancient town, and observed the Hoi An cuisine which was recognized as an intangible cultural heritage, over 500-year old pottery industry, eastern and western cultural buildings, artworks, over 400-year old Cau pagoda and other unique handmade businesses.
On 12 December, the Myanmar delegation arrived back in Myanmar.
