THE 14th Meeting of the Myanmar-Laos Border Authorities at the Central Level co-chaired by U Kyaw Myo Htut, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and Mr Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, was held on 15 March 2023 in Tachilek, Myanmar.

The two leaders discussed matters related to enhancing border cooperation including strengthening cooperation between the two border authorities, border passes, border checkpoints, border trade, labour cooperation, navigation on the Mekong River, inspection and restoration of boundary reference markers (BRMs) along the Mekong River, cooperation on drugs control and other matters. Senior officials from the respective ministries of both sides attended the meeting.

Afterwards, Deputy Minister U Kyaw Myo Htut hosted a dinner in honour of Mr Phoxay Khakhamphithoune, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and delegation at the Akha Traditional Restaurant in Tachilek.

The 14th Meeting of the Myanmar-Laos Border Authorities at the Central Level was proceeded by Senior Officials’ Meeting co-chaired by U Aung Ko, Director-General of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar and Mr Anousine Khattiyalath, Director-General of the Office of the National Boundary Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR held on 14 March in Tachilek.

Laotian Deputy Minister Mr Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune and the Lao delegation arrived in Tachilek on 14 March to attend the 14th Meeting of the Myanmar-Laos Border Authorities at the Central Level.
