The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation singed a memorandum of understanding with the Japan International Cooperation Agency for a technical assistance project to promote value chain of agricultural crops through food safety programme.
Union Minister Dr Aung Thu and senior officers of his office attended the signing ceremony in the presence of JICA Myanmar Office’s outgoing Chief Representative Mr Karasawa Masayuki and his successor Mr Sakakura Noriji at the MoALI’s headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Under the MoU, the project will be implemented from March 2020 to March 2024 in Hmawbi Township of Yangon and Kalaw Township of Shan State with selected farmers in the designated areas where the locals and staff members will be trained for data collection, promotion of value chain for agricultural crops, cultivation processes and loan services. The project is also aimed to generate more income for the farmers and to extend it into other areas.
