A delegation led by Director- General U Aung Kyaw Moe of the Department of Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement participated in the Regional Consultative Meeting on Promoting the Establishment of Regional Victim Assistance Network held at Bali, Indonesia, on 5 December. At the opening of the regional consultative meeting, Executive Director Mr Prum Suonpraseth of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre (ARMAC) extended greetings to the attendees. Then, Mr Kwon Hee-seog, Ambassador of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN and Mr Yeap Samnang, Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN gave their opening speeches. Afterwards, they discussed proposals and suggestions for the establishment of a support network for people injured by landmines in the ASEAN region, and good practices and difficulties resulted from national coordination meetings held country-wise for building a support network for people injured by landmines in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Viet Nam and the ASEAN region. Myanmar delegation studied the registration and support for people with disabilities, information regarding rehabilitation, and providing development assistance to be carried out after the process of mine clearance has been completed, it is learnt.
