SUPERVISED by the Yangon Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, a combined team under the leadership of the Hmawby Township Forest Department conducted inspections on 6 November.

Officials nabbed a total of 0.8058 tonne of illegal teak doors and teak window frames worth K531,828 from an Isu­zu car (estimated value of K15 million) at the wood and forest product checkpoint at 30/1 Milepost on Yangon-Pyay Road. The action was taken under the Forest Law.

In addition, a combined on-duty team at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) combined check­point captured K3.2 million worth of clothes and sandals without official documents from two vehicles heading from Myawady to Yangon on 6 and 7 November. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

Similarly, a combined team made inspections on 7 and 8 November and seized a total of 42.7876 tonnes of illegal teak worth K15,831,186 in the Toungoo district.

Therefore, five arrests (at an estimated value of K34,563,014) were made on three consecutive days from 6 to 8 November, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee.
