SUPERVISED by the Anti-Ille­gal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.

An inspection team led by Myanmar Police Force conduct­ed the inspections on 4 August under the instructions of the Mon State Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force,

Officials confiscated 2,000 kilogrammes of restricted chem­ical – Ammonium Nitrate – worth K3.6 million at the Shwethanlwin Tollgate in Belin Township. The action was taken under the Nar­cotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.

Similarly, a team led by the Yangon Region Forest Depart­ment carried out inspections under the supervision of the Yan­gon Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force on 5 August.

They seized a total of 6.1236 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K311,822 in the Oakkan forest reserve in Taikkgyi Township of Yangon North District. The action was taken under the For­est Law.

In addition, a total of 17.828 tonnes of illegal teak, iron-wood and other timbers worth K8,566,372 were confiscated in the Bago, Thayawady and Pyi districts on 4 August, and the action was taken under the For­est Law.

Afterwards, on 6 August, a team led by the Myanmar Police Force confiscated an unregis­tered Honda Air Wave car (ap­proximately K2.5 million), and the action was taken under the Export and Import Law.

In addition, a combined team under the Mandalay Region An­ti-Illegal Trade Task Force im­pounded duty-free warm clothes and perfume detergent (ABC branded) worth K29,260,000 from a Nissan Diesel Tractor Head truck (approximately K27 mil­lion) near the Htonebo junction on the Yangon- Mandalay Road. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.

Therefore, nine arrests (ap­proximately K71,238,194) were made on three consecutive days from 4 to 6 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. – MNA
