UNION Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo, accompanied by Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win, held a meeting with directors-general from departments, region-level department officials at the Panhlaing sluice gate project area near Moemakha village in Nyaungdon Township on 25 June. The meeting discussed flood prevention activities in the rainy season and taking measures of natural disasters, issues related to increase seeds, inputs and technical sharing to improve agriculture and livestock prevention, and private sector investment promotion.
Afterwards, the Union Minister and officials observed the private agricultural and livestock activities, and production of high-value shrimp-based in stant products in Maubin township. During the visit, the Union Minister had a cordial discussion with entrepreneurs on the use of commercial lands in line with the law, requirements to comply with market standards for exports and commercial scale production of fish amino.
Next, the Union Minister discussed the working conditions of the farmers and inspected agricultural production and crop profitability with the farmers in Wataw village monsoon rice field. At Fisheries Institute (Twantay) in Twantay Township, they discussed the need to upgrade it to a college in the future.
In the 2020-2021 financial year, over 229 million visses of freshwater fish were produced from Yangon Region and more than 332 million visses of fish from Ayeyawady Region. Of them, waste and animal feed utilization accounted for 30 per cent, 10 per cent for exports and 60 per cent for domestic consumption.
