UNION Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Htay Aung attend­ed a regional workshop on the National Tourism Professional Board (NTPB) and the Tourism Professional Certification Board (TPCB), led by the Ministry of Tourism and Economic Innova­tion of Indonesia, held via a hybrid system yesterday afternoon.

The meeting was attended by representatives from related Ministries of NTPB and TPCB, private tourism organizations, the International Labour Organ­ization, Speakers from the Minis­ters of Education for the Estab­lishment of Learning Centres in Southeast Asia and ASEAN and East Asia Economic Research Group, Members of the NTPB and TPCB from the ASEAN Member States and represent­atives from the ASEAN Tourism Authority.

At the workshop, the Union Minister urged the ASEAN Mem­ber States and the ASEAN Re­gional Secretariat on the Imple­mentation of Mutual Recognition of ASEAN Tourism Professionals to promote the implementation of the ASEAN Mutual Recog­nition Programme for Tourism Professionals and Tourism En­trepreneurs. He discussed issues related to the capacity building of ASEAN Master Trainers and ASEAN Master Assessors, and the provision of teacher training programmes for Freelance Pro­fessionals under the ASEAN-Aus­tralia Development Cooperation Programme.

Afterwards, the participants discussed the necessary infra­structure development for the implementation of the ASEAN Tourism Professionals Recog­nition Programme, the role of NTPB and TPCB, challenges and opportunities, and cooperation for regional economic development and future plans for tourism.

Next, the deputy direc­tor-general of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar and representatives of NTPB and TPCB from the ASEAN Mem­ber States discussed the status of NTPB and TPCB, National Trainers and Assessors training based on ASEAN Tourism Skills Standards, certification status, proficiency standards for ASEAN tourism professionals and good experiences in implementing the ASEAN Common Tourism Curriculum.

The regional workshop aimed to share and discuss the experiences of NTPB and TPCB in implementing the ASEAN Tourism Professionals Recog­nition Programme, which con­tributes to the integration of the ASEAN Business Community.
