THE Ayeyawady Bridge (Aunglan-Thayet) construction project is located in the Thayet District of the Magway Region. The bridge will link Aunglan and Thayet townships. The bridge construction task force (3) of the Bridge Department under the Ministry of Construction constructs the bridge and is now complete 50 per cent.
The 2,272.5 metres long bridge has a 1,732.5 metres long main bridge section and a 300 metres long approach bridge on the side of Thayet and a 240 metres long approach bridge on the side of Aunglan.
The facility is 10.5 metres in width flanked by one-metre-wide pedestrian walk on each side. The water clearance will be 130 metres in width and 16 metres in height. The load capacity of the bridge is AASHTO HS 25/ HL 93. The construction cost will be K98,000 million and the operation started in the 2017-2018FY. The total budget was K38,992 million as of 2022-2023FY. The Bridge Department invited a tender to construct four spans out of 14 spans for the main bridge this financial year. The bridge construction is estimated to be completed in the 2024-2025FY.
When it completes, there will be easy access to Thayet and Aunglan townships without any transport difficulties. Moreover, it can reach the economic corridor that links to Ruili of China by passing through Thayet, Aunglan and Nay Pyi Taw from the Kyaukpyu SEZ of Rakhine State.
Therefore, the new bridge will bring benefits to the residents in improving their economy, health, education and other sectors.
