Young Men’s Buddhist Association-YMBA (Central) Statement

1. The government is arranging to open the basic education schools on 2 June and is making efforts to accept enrollment and provide school uniforms and stationery.

2. In doing so, we have learned that the two-storey meeting hall of the Nawnghkio Township Educa­tion Office in Shan State (North) was reportedly bombed by a terrorist group called NUG and its affiliates, PDF, at around 2 pm on 31 May 2022. Three school heads were seriously injured in the blast. Four teachers and school heads, including the Assistant Township Education Officer, and one civil servant were injured. They were taken to the military hospital in PyinOoLwin for treat­ment, and a headmistress died of her injuries.

3. The Young Men’s Buddhist Association-YMBA (Central) strongly condemns this act of vandal­ism.
