ceremony to honour 20 members of the Sang­ha who passed the 74th Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida selection examination organ­ized by the Ministry of Reli­gious Affairs and Culture was held in conjunction with the certificate presentation cer­emony at Maha Pasana Cave on Kaba Aye Hill in Yangon yesterday morning.

First, Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Abhidhaja Maha Rattha Guru Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bha­mo Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Ku­marabhivamsa gave Saraniya Ovadakatha.

On the occasion, the Chair­man Sayadaw urged members of the Sangha who passed the examination to continue con­tinuous efforts for strength­ening and flourishing of the Buddha Sasana. The Sayadaw called on laypersons to support the Buddhism. Both monks and disciples are to join hands in ensuring long term existence of the Buddhism, he added.

Union Minister for Reli­gious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko supplicated religious affairs.

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Dep­uty Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Command­er-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win offered Mula Abhidhammakovida title and certificate to Ashin Manita, who has passed the two and a half Pitaka treatises, of Tip­itaka Maha Gandawin Nikaya Monastery in Dagon Myothit (East) Township of Yangon Re­gion. SAC member Dr Banyar Aung Moe also offered title of Dighanikayakovida and cer­tificate to Ashin Acaralankara who has passed the two Pitaka treatises, from the same mon­astery.

Union Ministers U Maung Maung Ohn, U Ko Ko and Dr Thet Khaing Win, Chief Min­ister of Yangon Region U Soe Thein, Lt-Gen Thet Pon of the Office of the Command­er-in-Chief (Army), Com­mander of Yangon Command Maj-Gen Nyunt Win Swe and officials offered titles of Vinay­akovida and certificates to sev­en members of the Sangha for passing the one Pitaka trea­tise and titles of Ubhatovib­hangakovida and certificates to 11 members of the Sangha for passing the first portion of Vinaya.

Vice Chairman of the Sang­ha Maha Nayaka Committee Presiding Nayaka of Thiho Pari­yatti Buddhist Learning Cen­tre in Kyaukme of Shan State (North) Agga Maha Pandita Dr Bhaddanta Canandasara deliv­ered a sermon, and congregation shared merits gained. They then offered alms to members of the Sangha who passed the exami­nation.

Until the 74th examination, 15 Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida title recipient Sayadaws and six Tipitakadhara Sayadaws have emerged during the 74 years period for serving the religious duties.
