UNION Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win attended the 15th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting at Conrad Hotel Bali in Bali of Indonesia yesterday.

During the meeting, the Union Minister said the COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment activities were successfully conducted through the unity of ASEAN member countries. Myanmar also appreciated the donations of COVID-19 protective gear and vaccines by member countries. The country also welcomes the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund that aims for ASEAN Vaccine Security and Self Reliance (AVSSR), test kits and personal protective equipment and research for vaccine production.

He also talked about the capacity building training courses for skilled human resources, adequate support, recovery plans, a firm health system for a pandemic, primary health care services, nutrition and physical exercises.

He then added that Myanmar will work together with member countries in rehabilitation processes and establishing a solid health system for coming pandemics.

On the same morning, the Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister attended the 15th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting Retreat held at Conrad Hotel Bali.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed the recognition of member countries for digital COVID-19 vaccination records, the ASEAN Single Digital COVID-19 Health Certificates Verification Portal, and the establishment of an emergency response centre for public health in South East Asia, recovery processes in the post-COVID-19 period and firm health care system.

They approved the report and suggestions of the Preparatory Senior Officials Meeting for the 15th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting and released the joint statement of the 15th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting.

The meeting was attended by Health Ministers of ASEAN countries, Deputy Ministers, Senior Health Officials, WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia, Director for Western Pacific, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN Secretary-General Office and Myanmar health officials of relevant departments.
