A farmer from the villages along the Mone creek and Thanbo village, Pwinphyu township, Magway region is successfully growing eggplant using underground water and earning good price, according to the farmers from Thanbo village, Pwintphyu township.

“The eggplant plantation in our village area is thriving. Consequently, the local farmers are cultivating the eggplant commercially using underground water. The eggplant crops are more earning good price than other crops. The eggplant price is ranging between K250-K300 per fruit depending upon its sizes. The eggplant seeds are being cultivated in line. There will be no damage when the eggplant is growing with bamboo poles to keep plants upright and fruit clean and intact. The brown eggplant is popular because they taste better than other eggplant species. That is the reason, brown eggplants are highly demanded by the commodity traders from Minbu town. The fruits are harvested every two days and yield about 300 or 400 fruits. Therefore, I would like to urge other growers to cultivate eggplants as is it successful vegetable crops with handsome prices,” said a local grower from Thanbo village in Pwinphyu township.

The local farmers from Pwintphyu township, Magway region rely on groundwater and Mone creek water to grow a variety of vegetables such as eggplant, bitter gourd, cabbage, tomato, radish, tomato, onion, garlic, cucumber, gourd and pumpkin on a commercial scale.

 This year, the eggplant business has been successful and is earning extra family income, it is learnt.
