SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
On 3 February, Mon State Customs inspectors and Mayanchaung inspection post officials conducted a surprise check and seized K25,000,000 worth of a 12-wheel vehicle carrying K18,600,000 worth of tyres heading from Myawady to Yangon. They also confiscated undocumented foodstuffs worth K1,400,000 from a passenger bus heading to Yangon from Hpa-an township. They took action against K45,000,000 worth of seizures under the Customs Law.
On 4 February, the inspection team led by Myanmar Police Force seized 34 cows worth K34,000,000 in Taze township and took action under the Animal Health and Breeding Development Law. They also seized one unregistered Honda Fit worth K3,500,000 in Sagaing township and took action under the Export and Import Law. Moreover, Sagaing Region Forest Department confiscated K85,000 worth of teak logs (3.166 tonnes) and took action under the Forest Law.
Similarly, Bago Region Forest Department seized 1.2040 tonnes of illegal teak worth of K180,600 in the forest reserve of Thayawady district and took action under the Forest Law. Thus, a total of seven arrests (estimated value of K82,765,600) were made on 3 and 4 February, stated the committee.
