UNDER the supervision of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, efforts are being made to take legal action against illegal trades in regions and states. On 25 January, a combined inspection team in Shan State found and confiscated 290 plastic containers containing about 20 litres each, believed to be Ethanol (estimated value of K17,400,000), in a field near the ferry station in Tinlong village, Muse Township, and action is taken under the Prevention from Danger of Chemicals and Associated Materials Law.

Combined teams under the management of the Illegal Trade Eradication Special Force conducted inspections in the northern district of Yangon Region on 25 and 26 January and confiscated 90 visses of Litsea tree bark and 1.5416 tonnes of illegal teak (estimated value of K465,630 in total). Action is taken under the Forest Law.

On 26 January, a combined inspection team led by the Customs Department in Mon State conducted inspections at Mayanchaung Permanent checkpoint and seized 101 undocumented cartons of “Hermit” brand traditional medicines (estimated value of K5,454,000) from a passenger bus, and action is taken under the Customs Law.

Moreover, 29.1372 tonnes of illegal Gum-kino wood (estimated value of K8,741,160) from two vehicles near the Thanbyuzayat-Ye road in Thanbyuzayat Township, Mawlamyine District in Mon State, and action is taken under the Forest Law. Similarly, on 27 January, a variety of illegal timber, 15.8162 tonnes (estimated value of K3,871,860) were seized from the forest reserves in Bago District and Toungoo District, and action is taken under the Forest Law.

Therefore, there was a total of seven cases (estimated value of K35,932,650) on January 25, 26, and 27, according to the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee.
