BAGO District Court sentenced a man and a woman to 10 years with labour in prison for trafficking and prostitution of four girls on 1 December.

Four girls from Waw Township, Bago Region, were sold to U Htin Kyaw, owner of “Bayinma” beer pub in Ye Township by Daw Than Than Win who lives in the same town after they told that the girls would make a lot of money if they worked in Yay Township.

A case was filed against U Htin Kyaw and Daw Than Than Win under Section 24/32 of the Prevention of Trafficking in Person Law at Waw Myoma Police Station and the Bago District Court sentenced both of them to 10 years with labour in prison under Section 24 of the Prevention of Trafficking in Person Law.

Similarly, one man and two women were sentenced to 20 years with labour in prison on 26 November after they forced a 15-year-old girl into prostitution. Aung Zaw, 21, wife Ma Maw Maw Than, 21, told the girl that she would make much money if she worked in a KTV and sold her to the prostitution house through Ma Kyi Kyi Khine (a) Ma Khine. The East District Court of Yangon Region sentenced them to 20 years with labour in prison under Section 28 (a) of the Prevention of Trafficking in Person Law.
