UNION Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn inspected the construction of the community centre (Taunggyi), implemented by the Department of Information and Public Relations under the BOT system, yesterday morning in Taunggyi.

Officials presented the status of the construction, and the Union minister said community centres have been implemented since 2015 by the Ministry of Information. The Department of Information and Public Relations were able to implement only ordinary libraries in the past that rented books, he added.

Community centres are intended not only for raising public awareness but also to address issues directly related to economic, health, social development. He said that active ties of the community centres in developing countries are found to be highly beneficial to the respective associations. They are the places where people come to study, to get information, and to discuss the development of the community, he said.

 The Prime Minister has instructed to educate the youth and correct their ideology, and therefore, it is necessary to prioritize activities aimed at youth development in community centres, he marked. He highlighted the need to systematically upgrade library services as the necessary expenditures for the transfer of digital libraries have been allowed, and to prioritize the purchase of books and periodicals that support youth development. He called on the staff to improve the work with good intentions as it is time to change the work of the Ministry of Information.

After the inspection tour, the Union minister, together with the minister for Social Affairs of the Shan state government, paid homage to the Shwephonepwint pagoda and observed the beauty and developments of Taunggyi. Taunggyi is a beautiful city with clean air located at 4,712 feet above sea level and is home to many ethnic nationalities.
