THE  18th  ASEAN  Senior  Officials  Meeting  on  Rural Development and Poverty Eradication,  chaired  by  the  Philippines,  was  held  under  the theme “Strengthening the ASEAN Response to Sustainable  Rural  Development  and  Poverty  Eradication  and  Accelerating  the  Rehabilitation  Process”,  yesterday  through  videoconferencing.

A delegation led by Director-General  U  Thein  Lwin  of  the  Department  of  Rural  Development and senior officers from the ten ASEAN member countries and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat participated in the meeting.

At  the  meeting,  the  Deputy  Director- General  of  the  National  Anti-Poverty  Commission of the Philippines addressed  the  meeting  and  the  ASEAN Secretariat briefed on the resolutions of the previous meeting.

Director- General  of  the  Department  of  Rural  Development  U  Thein  Lwin  said  that  Myanmar  has  proposed  three projects as regards the ASEAN  Rural  Development  and  Poverty  Eradication Framework  Plan  (2021-2025)  and  will  implement  the  Sustainable Rural Livelihoods and Entrepreneurship  Promotion  Project, the Sustainable Rural Infrastructure  Development  Project  and  the  Community  Leadership  for  Sustainable  Rural Development Project.

The meeting also discussed  actions  on  long-term  sustainable  development goals,  climate  change,  gender  issues,  and  exchanged  views  on  the  drafting  of  the  ASEAN  Comprehensive  Rehabilitation Framework to promote  post-COVID-19  rehabilitation  in  the  ASEAN  region.
