THE 57th CCOP Annual Session and the  77th  CCOP  Steering  Committee  Meeting  of  the  Coordinating  Committee  for  Geoscience  Programmes  in East and South-East Asia (CCOP) was  held  virtually  from  the  CCOP  headquarters  in  Bangkok,  Thailand  and  Hanoi,  Viet  Nam  from  23  to  25  November.

CCOP  Member  and  Permanent Representative  to  Myanmar,  Director-General  of  the  Department  of  Geological  Survey  and  Mineral  Exploration  of  the  Ministry  of  Natural 

Resources  and  Environmental  Conservation  Dr  Thet  Tin  Nyunt,  and  Heads  of  Departments  joined  the  virtual  meeting  and  participated  in  the discussion.

The CCOP specializes in the field of geological sciences, including the mining sector in the member states and  focusing  on  geological  disaster  risk reduction, energy sector, continuous cooperation in groundwater and urban development geology.

Myanmar  will  participate  in  the  research and development activities.

Benefits  will  be  gained  through  better knowledge and implementation of geological sciences, such as disaster risk reduction plans, according to the meeting.

The  meeting  was  attended  by  a  total of 99 representatives from international geological experts.
