SECTION 361 of the 2008 Constitution states the Union recognizes the special position of Buddhism as the faith professed by the great majority of the citizens of the Union and the people revere the monks according to the cultural tradition of Myanmar.

The country is also standing based on the way of life raised by the teachings of the monks and due to the missions of the monks, it is recognized as the most prosperous country in Theravada Buddhism among the Buddhist countries.
