UNION Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo met with the principal and faculty members together with administrative staff at the golden jubilee hall of the Institute of Agriculture in Pyinmana yesterday.

Afterwards, the Union Minister inspected the campus of the institute and observed the cleanliness of the environment and the preservation of the nearly 100-year-old ancient buildings built in 1924.

Next, the Union Minister discussed upgrading of libraries of institutes, and library network accessible of the University of Agriculture and University of Veterinary Science as well as same institutes for exchange of knowledge.

The Union Minister alsofocused on the need to en­courage self-employment and subsistence farming in staff housing to provide nutrition and family income, and the completion of construction meeting set standards for staff housings.

After that, the Union Min­ister and party inspected the livestock education classroom, and construction sites of lab­oratory and training facilities. They also visited the model GAP vegetable farm.

There are 15 institutes of agriculture in various regions and states in addition to Uni­versity of Agriculture and Uni­versity of Veterinary Science.

Those institutes extend the livestock diploma courses from the start of this academ­ic year to provide vocational training needed in the livestock sector. A plan is underway to conduct the diploma courses in industrial agriculture.
