THE Ministry of Construction is constructing a connecting bridge between Bokpyin Township and Ohntawkan village tract in Taninthayi Region with over K5 billion, and now it isalmost completed, according to the Bridge Department.
The new Bokpyin-Ohntawkan bridge is a two-lane reinforced concrete bridge, 1,200 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 3 feet wide for sidewalks on each side, and 18 feet in height. Its water clearance is 83 feet wide and its load capacity is 60 tonnes per vehicle.
The bridge is being built by the Bridge Department Construction Team (4) and Bridge Task Force (13) at the cost of K5.434 billion. Construction of the bridge is nearly 100 per cent completed, and the work on the railings and finishing work is continuing, according to the Bridge Department.
The bridge is constructed with piers with a diameter of 1.2 metres and anti-corrosive paint is applied to construction rods accordingly to the specifications to ensure salt resistance in areas exposed to seawater.
The Construction of the bridge started on 18 April 2019. When the bridge is completed, locals from village tracts on the Ohntaw side will be able to travel to Bokpyin in a short time, and transporting crops and fishery products will be faster and easier than before. Khine Htoo (IPRD)
