 THE second coordination meeting for the Task Force which is being provided by the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management – AHA Centre was held yesterday at the Ayeyawady Hall of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Chairman of the Task Force and Union Minister for International Cooperation U Ko Ko Hlaing, Vice-Chairperson of the Task Force and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Thet Thet Khine, Deputy Ministers and officials of relevant Ministries attended the meeting.

 

At the meeting, Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing said that ASEAN is providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar as per the fourth point of the five aspirations agreed by ASEAN leaders.

 

“As a first step, medical supplies worth about US$1.1 million have accepted in Myanmar to fight the COVID-19 epidemic. It is being distributed to divisions and states,” the Union Minister said.

 

“Liquid Oxygen and hospital equipment have been handed over to major hospitals in Yangon Region. Arrangements are being made to continue donation to regions and states, including Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Officials from the Ministry of Health, representatives from the Myanmar Red Cross Society and Yangon-based ASEAN embassies are also assisting in the donation programmes.

 

In addition, the first batch of supplies will continue to arrive until the end of this year,” the Union Minister added.

 

The Union Minister urged members of the committee to support each other in their respective responsibilities.

 

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also briefed all on the situation of providing ASEAN humanitarian assistance to Myanmar through the AHA Centre. Officials from the Ministry

of Health discussed plans for the second round of donations, receipt of goods, conditions of distribution and future plans.

 

Next, officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement focused on arrangements for the second phase of donations.

 

Participants of the meeting also reviewed the implementation of the decisions of the first coordination meeting and the status of implementation. — MNA
