STRANDED Myanmar citizens have been safely repatriated from Thailand via the Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge (2) commencing 1 August 2021, and a total of 303 Myanmar nationals returned home yesterday. The officials repatriated 200 people every other day in the past and welcomed 500 people per day beginning 26 September.

Myawady District Deputy Administrative Officer U Aung Chan Nyein and local officials helped the returnees with medical tests and other supplies.

"We repatriated the returnees via No (2) bridge since March 2020 after shutting No 1 bridge. The infection rate in Thailand was increased and we accepted only 200 people per day every other day on 1 August 2021. Then, the numbers were increased up to 500 per day due to the declining infection rate of our country and Thailand, and difficulties of our citizens," said Myawady District Deputy Administrative Officer U Aung Chan Nyein.

The latest group of returnees included 187 males and 116 females from different regions and states.
