FEDERATION of Myanmar Engineering Societies held annual meeting virtually yesterday.

Union Minister for Electricity and Energy U Win Khaing, Patron of the federation sent his video message to the meeting.

The Union Minister said the federation was established in December 1995 and it reached its Silver Jubilee in 2020 with a large number of members.

He then discussed the cooperation work of the federation with Myanmar Engineering Council and enactment of Myanmar Engineering Council Law in 2013 by aiming to develop the ethics of Myanmar engineers as well as technology and to support the state’s development.

He highlighted the crucial role of engineers for infrastructural development in developing countries, significant development, especially in the transport sector, electrification and rural development programmes under the new government term since it took power in 2016.

He also talked about the importance of infrastructure to lure the local and foreign investors, engineering subjects to produce qualified engineers, learned persons and skilled labours, cooperation work with Myanmar Engineering Council, paper-reading session for engineering subjects, negotiations and meeting conducted by the government, NGO, ASEAN region association, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations and Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific. The ceremony to select new executive members for 2021-2022 was conducted after the annual meeting.

He also urged the participants to select the new executive members who are willing to serve for the development of the federation and engineering field with innovative ideas to keep abreast of international countries.

He then made suggestions for those elected as new members that they should carry out the policies of country and objectives of the federation in unity to develop the infrastructure and engineering subjects.

The ceremony was attended by Patrons, Chairmen and members of Myanmar Engineering Council and Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies.
