THE Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation has invited the Myanmar Livestock Federation to participate in projects being carried out by the ministry, which offer opportunities to private breeders.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu held a meeting with business personnel from the federation yesterday in Yangon, and provided details about the ministry’s training programmes for offering veterinary services to youths in rural areas and projects with international organizations in investment and technology in livestock sector, in an effort to boost food production through manageable farming.

The delegation from the Myanmar Livestock Federation, led by Chairman Dr Mya Han, met with the Union Minister to also discuss the chicken and fish breeding sectors, foreign investment in the livestock breeding sector, import of feedstuff and the export of honey.

The federation is currently working with the ministry and international organizations to produce food meeting international standards, to reduce costs, to expand projects, and to acquire basic requirements for the sector, including technology.

Meanwhile, the ministry’s Livestock and Veterinary Department is upgrading its laboratories in Yangon and Mandalay to meet international standards. It will also sign the veterinary service program with the GACC of China.

Additionally, the department provided veterinary services to over 580,000 drought cattle in 2019, earning more than US$ 550 million for the country’s budget.

For development of livestock breeding sector and food  safety in the country, Veterinary and Livestock Breeding Development Bill drafted by the ministry has been approved by the Pyithu Hluttaw, and it is being debated at Amyotha Hluttaw.
