The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation organized a virtual opening ceremony of the 32nd paper reading session on forest, mining and environmental research, via videoconferencing yesterday.
During the virtual opening ceremony, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win said that it is very important for the development of research and education for the long-term development of a nation.
He continued that the duty of his ministry is to make effective efforts for sustainable management of forest resources, environmental conservation, and systematic exploitation of mineral resources for economic growth without harming the natural environment.
Regarding the research, the Union Minister said that research needs to be conducted by using new approaches to solve forest and environmental issues. He added that applied research is very important to solve this problem.
He also urged the researchers to cooperate with local and foreign organizations. Now, the Forest, Mining and Environmental Research Advisory Committee led by the Deputy Minister has also been formed.
The 52 research papers on Forest, Mining and Environmental issues will be read and submitted in the two-day session. Not only papers written by researchers from the Forest Research Institute, but also the dissertations of graduates of MSc and PhD programmes who have returned from various foreign universities will be read in the two-day session.
Forest Department Director-General Dr Nyi Nyi Kyaw, ECCDI Chairperson retired Director-General Dr Kyaw Tint, Nature Conservancy’s Myanmar Programme Director Dr Tint Lwin Thaung served as keynote speakers in the ceremony, and they discussed challenging forestry issues, climate change, history of forest research, and international and local research on forest, mining and environmental issues.
The research papers on forestry, climate change, biodiversity, responsible wood utilization, environmental conservation and mining have been read in the two-day paper reading session.
