Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2015 spotlighted Bagan’s sunrise and sunset as among the world’s premier proposal settings, and the destination continues to earn international acclaim as one of the finest places to make a marriage proposal.

In the Best in Travel 2015 travel media feature published during 2014-2015, Bagan’s sunrise was included among the world’s best places for a marriage proposal. The list featured Bagan (Myanmar), Trolltunga (Norway), New York (United States), NamibRand (Namibia), the Amalfi Coast (Italy), and Udaipur (India), and Bagan ranked first.

Later in 2015, many other destinations also gained worldwide recognition as ideal places for marriage proposals. These include the illuminated Eiffel Tower in France, Santorini Caldera in Greece, renowned for its whitewashed houses overlooking the blue sea at sunset, Bora Bora in French Polynesia, famous for its crystal-clear waters and overwater bungalows; Grand Canyon National Park in the United States, offering spectacular sunrise and sunset views over dramatic canyons, the Venice Canals in Italy, where couples can enjoy romantic boat rides beneath historic bridges, Mount Fuji in Japan, admired during the cherry blossom season and winter months, Iceland’s Northern Lights, celebrated for their breathtaking natural beauty, Maui in the United States, known for its Hawaiian sunsets and waterfalls; Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, which resembles a fairy-tale castle, Banff National Park’s Lake Louise in Canada, famous for its turquoise lake and snow-capped mountains, and Bagan, Myanmar, where visitors can enjoy historic pagodas and temples alongside the beauty of hot-air balloons.

International tourists visit Bagan every year to admire its ancient cultural heritage, including its temples, pagodas, stupas, and the scenic Ayeyawady River. The region’s spectacular sunrises, sunsets, and hot-air balloons continue to make Bagan one of the world’s most romantic and highly recommended destinations for marriage proposals.
