It is necessary to preserve the distinctive environment and unique characteristics of PyinOoLwin, endowed with a rich historical heritage and immense value, said President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing at a meeting with town elders at the hall of the National Kandawgyi Gardens in PyinOoLwin on 10 July.

In his speech, the President highlighted that of the population in the PyinOoLwin area, 72.5 per cent are residents, while the remaining are people who have migrated from other regions. Regardless of their origins, everyone living in the city has a shared responsibility to preserve and safeguard it continuously.

He stressed that it is necessary to revive the region’s distinctive identity as the “City of Cherry Blossoms” and the “City of Flowers”.

He urged all to strive for the development of the region into a “Health City” and a “Coffee City”, building on its lush green environment and cool, pleasant climate.

The President gave guidance to relevant ministries and the development committee to verify and manage the upgrade of roads connecting wards and villages in PyinOoLwin Township.

He outlined that agricultural and livestock breeding activities should be systematically implemented to ensure food security for locals in PyinOoLwin Township.

Moreover, he pointed out that measures are also being taken to ensure an adequate supply of drinking water, and water resources such as dams, reservoirs, creeks, and other sources of water must be systematically conserved.

He continued that while the region’s peaceful, pleasant, and beautiful environment has contributed to an increase in the number of people coming to live in and visit the area, thereby helping to enhance the region’s socioeconomic development, everyone must remain constantly aware and vigilant of security matters to ensure urban security.

The President emphasized that as PyinOoLwin has a long-standing tradition of excellence in education, students, parents, and teachers are all urged to work together with due emphasis to achieve a higher percentage of student progression from one grade level to the next.

Chair U Aung Myin from the town elders’ body reported on efforts of the body to improve education, healthcare, religious and social sectors of the city as much as possible, needs to upgrade the circular road to the Kandawlay Lake, construction of school sports ground, swimming pools and tennis courts, requirements of building the retaining walls along the banks of the Gelaung Creek and pavements, needs to provide agricultural inputs for agricultural sector, and upgrade of some roads in wards and villages.

After the meeting, the President cordially greeted town elders.

Also present at the meeting were Union ministers, the Mandalay Region chief minister, the Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) and officials.

The President and party visited the National Kandawgyi Gardens and inspected the nurturing of a cherry plant to mark the centennial celebration of the gardens and the Siberia Cider plant given by the Novosibirsk Government of the Russian Federation.

The President also inspected the site chosen for the construction of the swimming pool near the District Stadium and gave guidance to officials.
