President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing met Prime Minister of the Republic of India Shri Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House yesterday morning. The President is currently on an official state visit to India at the invitation of the Prime Minister.
On arrival at Hyderabad House, the President was cordially welcomed by the Indian Prime Minister.
The President and the Indian Prime Minister held a separate meeting. It was also attended by Union Ministers U Khin Maung Yi, U Tin Maung Swe, Dr Kan Zaw, U Min Naung and Dr Charlie Than and Myanmar delegation members. The Indian Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Dr PK Mishra, National Security Advisor Mr Ajit Doval, Ambassador of India to Myanmar Shri Abhay Thakur, and officials from the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the meeting, Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi discussed the maintenance of good relations and talks between India and the experience of Myanmar in a critical period due to the Mandalay earthquake. The Prime Minister expressed his delight and pride at His Excellency’s election as President. He said that it would be a significant trip for the President to hold meetings with officials of the Indian government so as to achieve good results.
In response, President U Min Aung Hlaing expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to work together in further strengthening the longstanding friendly relations and cooperation between Myanmar and India. There are many arenas in which the two countries can cooperate for the benefit of the people. The President also expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by India during the period when Myanmar suffered damage and losses as a result of the major Mandalay earthquake in 2025. He continued that, as the Indian Prime Minister once stated, “India will be the driving engine of world growth,” Myanmar looks forward to continuing cooperation with India.
They also exchanged views on the exercising the five principles of peaceful coexistence between the two countries, promotion of cooperation in education, health, defence, trade, investment and business, tourism and cultural sectors, more import of construction materials, agricultural fertilizers and medicines, oil and oil products, fibres and textiles to Myanmar, cooperation in information and technology, artificial intelligence (AI) sector and space technological sector, bilateral cooperation in ensuring peace and stability in border region, drug eradicating and combatting online scam and gambling activities, efforts of Myanmar in holding the fair and prestigious election, ongoing process of democratically elected government on the path of democracy to implement the wills of the people through Hluttaws formed with People’s representatives, and implementation of plans to benefit both countries and peoples.
The high-level Myanmar delegation led by the President attended the luncheon in its honour by the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
After the luncheon, the President signed the guests’ book of Hyderabad House.
As the President departed from Hyderabad House, the Prime Minister of India saw him off. — MNA/TTA
